Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?”
Dr. King’s question is embedded in our corporate DNA – our belief in being and doing “more” for our clients, customers, and the community. It’s central to both our personal and professional lives. We head up the PTA at our children’s school. And we support clients like the Montgomery County Volunteer Center (MCVC).
For the second straight year, Montage had the pleasure of handling event planning, recruitment, promotion and sponsorship for MCVC’s annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service.
This year’s event showcased 108 unique community service projects. A mix of old favorites and new activities included making fleece blankets and scarves for hospice patients, crafting cards containing well wishes for veterans, and packaging food boxes for local families in need. Attendees could also explore 25 area causes and initiatives at the Volunteer Fair.
Last year’s Day of Service saw record-breaking attendance. We knew it was time to expand. So, in 2019, we extended the MLK Day of Service to six sites throughout Montgomery County, Maryland. The Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center remained as the primary site. There, we welcomed more than 2,000 volunteers of all ages. Further, satellite events from Rockville to as far away as Germantown opened doors to nearly 2,000 more participants.
At the various sites, volunteers assembled care packages for NICU families. Others crafted key chains to raise breast cancer awareness or stuffed “totes of hope” for the homeless. Hands-on activities like building functional robots and circuits engaged the young and young-at-heart. Meanwhile, participants also learned how to advocate for causes they care about. All had the opportunity to draw up a picket sign and make their voice heard.
